Mrs Helen Harquail, OBE

(1912 – 2013) Mrs Helen Harquail passed away peacefully at her home on West Bay Road on Monday, 12 August 2013, but her legacy lives on at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands. Mrs Harquail had a strong interest in the culture and environment of the Cayman Islands. She was a founding member of the National Trust and a National Gallery board member. She famously gave to the Cayman people land endowments of significant financial and cultural value. The Cayman National Cultural Foundation received land upon which the Harquail Theatre was founded. Four acres of land was donated to The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands upon which our Gallery building now stands. The F.J. Harquail Exhibition Hall is named in honour of Mrs Harquail’s late husband, Frank.
