Lori Peterson

Lori joined the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) in June 2019. She initially joined the team as a Summer Intern before completing our yearlong intensive internship. Having been promoted to Education Assistant, Lori’s current role provides support for a full range of Education initiatives including family day activities, educational art classes and tours, seniors programming as well as assistance with office and reception administration.

Prior to joining NGCI, Lori studied at Redeemer University College in Ontario, Canada earing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with a focus in Studio Art Practice and a Bachelor of Arts in History. During this time of study, she began to emerge as a practicing artist producing and selling art works and participating in a group exhibition with her fellow piers. The experience gained from this group show has equipped Lori with many skills that she has since been able to apply whilst working at NGCI.

Lori is passionate about the role art and art making play in the preservation and expression of a culture – whether locally or internationally. She believes in inspiring young and upcoming artists to not conform to set notions about art but rather to branch out and discover how art culturally can be both portrayed and preserved in various forms.  Her position at the NGCI allows Lori to encourage those with similar aspirations while also furthering her knowledge, experience and increasing awareness of the historical significance art plays in the Cayman Islands.
