Art Haven 2023/2024

until
31 Jul

The National Gallery’s Art Haven outreach programme was developed over a decade ago to connect with incarcerated individuals and those undergoing rehabilitation in the Cayman Islands. Through regular art instruction at HMP Northward, HMP Fairbanks and Caribbean Haven, participants are provided with a creative outlet for self-expression and creative exploration while expanding their knowledge of local culture and heritage, and while skill-building in art theory and technique.

This exhibition showcases a selection of the exciting work created by programme participants at all three organisations, and celebrates their individual and collective artistic accomplishments. Please take a moment to enjoy this lively and diverse manifestation of their creative effort.

Sincere thanks to programme sponsors Kevin Butler and Lori Monk, whose longstanding and generous support make this programme and exhibition possible.

About Art Haven

As an inclusive organization that honours the Cayman Islands’ artistic heritage, celebrates art and seeks to provide learning experiences for all our diverse public, the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands is committed to ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in all that we do. Our outreach programmes aim to engage with those who feel alienated from mainstream social experiences, education, and employment, including incarcerated, rehabilitating, and at-risk individuals.

Research indicated that the arts have the capacity to positively transform lives. Art practice offers opportunities for individuals to explore their potentials and interests, improve visual communication skills, engage with other cultures, and apply a disciplined work ethic creativity. NGCI’s Art Haven outreach programme actively works to destigmatize programme participants by recognizing them as valuable members of our community and by supporting their long-term Personal growth.
