A National Gallery Travelling Exhibition

Exhibition

This exhibition showcases select works from the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands’ permanent collection, presenting reproductions of original artworks at locations across the Cayman Islands. Spanning a half century of artistic practice in Cayman, the featured works reflect a representative sample of the diverse cross-section of artists, genres and styles encompassed within the wider collection as a whole.

Formally referred to as the National Collection, this public collection is held in trust for the people of the Cayman Islands and is jointly overseen by the Islands’ three national cultural organisations: the National Gallery (NGCI), the Cayman Islands National Museum (CINM) and the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF). Collectively, these organisations are charged with preserving and promoting the visual and performing arts of and in the Cayman Islands, while providing a platform for displaying historical and contemporary expressions of Caymanian cultural heritage.

Conceived as a travelling exhibition series that will rotate between satellite spaces in all three Islands, Highlights from the Collection affords audiences the opportunity to experience the remarkable cultural resource that is the National Collection without having to travel to NGCI’s central exhibition space—supporting the National Gallery’s ongoing mission to make art accessible to all.

Art at the Airport
The National Gallery is proud to continue its partnership with the Cayman Islands Aviation Authority to deliver Art at the Airport—an initiative that was launched in tandem with the redevelopment and reopening of the expanded Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) in 2019. Highlights From the Collection is the latest in a series of exhibitions and art installations to be featured across several areas of the airport as part of the programme.
