Chris Christian

b. 1972

Grand Cayman–born Chris Christian is a self-taught artist who began painting in the early 2000s, joining the Native Sons artist collective soon after. He has exhibited widely with the group and has been a regular demonstrator of Caymanian traditional arts at the Art@Governor’s, Looky Ya and Red Sky at Night community art festivals. Notable exhibitions include See Me Ya (2007) and Native Sons’ Grass Piece (2008), both at The Morgan Gallery, and Native Sons’ Fahive (2006) and Native Sons – Twenty Years On (2016) at NGCI. He is the founder of Cayman Traditional Arts, a company that teaches heritage crafts to students across the Cayman Islands. He also manages the exhibition schedule of The Gallery at The Ritz-Carlton — Grand Cayman. In 2003, Christian received a CNCF lifetime achievement award recognising his accomplishments in fine art, and his work can be found in the public collections of NGCI and the Cayman Islands National Museum. NGCI exhibitions include All Access  (2014) and Upon the Seas (2017).
