Forces of Nature photography exhibition

Press Release

The National Gallery invited five local photographers, Lucy Best, Siobhan Timms, Tytia Habing, Justin Uzzell and Aston Ebanks to come together in a group show that celebrates Nature and her power to make, and to shake, our individual and collective universe. Their resulting images include a wide variety of themes including human nature, parenthood, the beauty of nature, the power of the ocean and finally how nature herself can by ‘forced’ to change.

Their compositions sometimes derive their impact from sheer enormity, such as hurricane force winds or the slow cascading water upon rock, smoothing and carving its textured surface, leaving the viewer in awe of nature’s might, while others explore the magic of intimate scenes like the bond forged between a mother and child. The camera allows them to constrain certain elements and separate them from a larger context, giving each artist the power to explore their individual characteristics and produce unique images.

“‘Forces of Nature’ is sponsored by National Gallery board member Henry Harford who is delighted to “be supporting the continuing successful efforts of the gallery.” The exhibition opens at Grand Old House on Thursday May 6th at 6.30pm and runs until August 24th.
