Description

The 3rd Cayman Islands Biennial exhibition continues at the Mind’s Eye Cultural Centre (Miss Lassie’s House).

The artworks displayed in this space–a modern annex located on the grounds of Miss Lassie’s traditional wattle and daub cottage, which has occupied the same site since 1881–form part of the wider selection of works featured in the 3rd Cayman Islands Biennial. Each of the host sites for this biennial offer a distinct context that has been selected for display. This space, overseen as part of the Mind’s Eye historic site by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF), features artworks that engage with the idea of ‘cultural mythologies’- one of three distinct sub-themes for this year’s biennial. Accordingly, the artworks displayed here are intended to be viewed as a cohesive exhibition in their own right, while simultaneously connecting both stylistically and thematically to the larger ensemble of works across each of the participating venues. In keeping with the historic context of Mind’s Eye, several works from the National Gallery’s permanent collection are also included in this display, serving to initiate a more intentional conversation between the contemporary artworks they accompany and the broader field of Caymanian history and cultural traditions.

Featured Artists: John Bird, Mark Chen, Nasaria Suckoo Chollette, Bryony Dixon, Carlos Garcia, John Reno Jackson, Alyssa Janae, Sarah McDougall, Bridget McPartland, Ena Isabel Miller de Selman, Gordon Solomon, Larissa Sved, Simon Tatum, and Avril Ward.

Opening Hours: Monday-Friday 10:00AM – 1:0oPM, 6 June through 29 September
