Fencing for Beginners: A Poetry Reading and Discussion with Leonard Dilbert

Thursday, 4 December 6:30PM-7:30PM – National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, Sculpture Garden

Join us in the National Gallery’s sculpture garden under the December full moon for a reading and discussion with poet, Leonard Dilbert entitled Fencing for Beginners. Dilbert will perform readings including from his 2025 Cayman Islands Biennial work, Who Needs Fences, developed in collaboration with David Bridgeman and currently on view at the Cayman Islands National Museum until 18 February. The reading will be followed by a group discussion of the themes arising from Dilbert and Bridgeman’s project, the wider subthemes of Archipelago, and the responsibility of the artist in our current context. About the Artist

Dilbert is a practicing poet who has published one book-length collection (“Grown From This Ground”, 2003). He has led several poetry workshops, and done many solo poetry presentations in Cayman, as well as readings in Canada, England, and the USA. His poem “MANNA” was Cayman’s selection for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He has also participated in group shows at The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands with written word installations, and done readings at Red Sky at Night through the Cayman National Cultural Foundation.
