Big Art Auction 7

06:30 pm-09:00 pm

Description

The Big Art Auction is a biennial exhibition and auction held to raise funds for the development of the National Gallery permanent collection, and related education resources.

Like other national art museums around the world, collections development is a strategic priority for the National Gallery. We aim to secure artworks of national importance as they become accessible and to ensure the long-term stewardship of the collection through careful management, scholarship and conservation.

Since 2013, through funds raised at previous Big Art Auctions, in addition to support from donors and collectors, the NGCI collection has grown to encompass several hundred artworks. However, we still have a long way to go – with many significant gaps from key historical periods and genres, and from well-known local artists. Proceeds from this year’s Big Art Auction will help us to conserve and manage the collection and ensure that it remains publicly accessible through inspirational education programmes and free entry to exhibitions. This year’s Big Art Auction 7 continues in our endeavours to promote the appreciation and practice of visual arts, of and in the Cayman Islands.
