The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (“NGCI”) and the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (“CNCF”) are Public Authorities and two of the three leading cultural organisations in the Cayman Islands. Neighbours both physically and in their missions, these two organisations are seeking to leverage this close working relationship and share skilled employee resources to the benefit of each organisation.
The Communications Officer (“postholder”) will oversee all communications and public relations activities for NGCI and CNCF (the “organisations”). They will work closely with the senior leadership in NGCI and CNCF to develop and implement communications plans and messaging that promotes both unique brands, enhances reputations, and ensures wide reaching and consistent communication that guides and grows community engagement with our activities.
The functions of this role will include but not be limited to the following duties and responsibilities:
- Working with the Director/MD, manage the development and implementation of a communications strategy for each organisation to grow brand, reputation, engagement, and further each organisation’s mission.
- Manage a professional communications function within each organisation, ensuring that activities are completed in a timeframe and method that elicits the required engagement, whilst also controlling costs and collecting data to support reporting and fundraising.
- Contribute to audience development via the promotion of each organisation and their programmes and activities, working to enhance their positive profiles, increase engagement with existing stakeholders and broaden their reach in underrepresented areas, taking advantage of cross organisational opportunities as appropriated.
- Create and/or gather content from across each organisation to share with the community (existing and targeted), ensuring organisational standards are met and the highest quality writing and design that considers tone, clarity, and content at every stage.
- Manage all social media platforms and communications channels to ensure accurate, timely and engaging content is shared consistently, both for general operations and programme and special campaigns, to create interest and engagement with all organisational activities and offerings.
- Develop and implement cross organizational campaigns when required.
The incumbent must have the following skills and experience:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, or a field closely related to culture or museum management. Master’s Degree would be preferred but not required.
- 5 years work experience in a similar role, 3 of which should be at a supervisory or management level.
- An ability to develop and implement successful communication and public relations strategies.
- A proven track record of building strong relationships with media outlets, key stakeholders, and influencers.
- Experience of effectively communicating to a variety of audiences including written and verbal communications, press releases, interviews, social media, photography, and public speaking.
- A high degree of computer literacy including a knowledge of Windows, social media platforms, website, and design platforms such as WordPress and Canva.
- A strong interest in the arts, museum field and/or not for profit sector, with an interest in Caymanian culture and a commitment to the work of NGCI and CNCF.
Compensation package on offer for this role includes an annual salary range of CI$60,060.00 – CI$69,396.00, Health and Pension contribution, and vacation entitlement per year.
