Art Haven

Art Haven

The National Gallery helps incarcerated participants use their time meaningfully through the completion of art projects, and encourages the discovery of new skills and the development of abilities through experimentation. Artistic expression is the central component of this programme. Participation in art can increase self-esteem, self-awareness, knowledge and skills. As anyone who has tried to get their colours and perspective right on a painting will know – it takes work and discipline. Importantly, these new skills can be utilised when Art Haven participants return to the work force. Art Haven classes take place between HMP Northward, HMP Fairbanks, HMP Eagle House, and Caribbean Haven Residential Centre. This programme is made possible thanks to support from Lori Monk and Kevin Butler.
