Yesterday’s Yesterday I

CATEGORY:
YEAR:
2023
MEDIUM:
Ceramics, sand and wood
SIZE:
15x18 in

Presented as a unified grouping of abstract figures whose elongated profiles suggest an indivisible mass of humanity, Darvill’s elegant sculptures speak to our common history and singular origin, despite the character traits that necessarily differentiate individuals from one another. In this instance, each figure’s ethnicity and gender appear ambiguous, with surface details rendered through the unique patterns that emerge from the artist’s chosen technique – a ‘naked’ treatment of the medium in place of conventional decorative glazing.
