About the Artist
Ed Oliver

1919–2005

Ed Oliver worked in advertising and industrial design in the United States before he moved to the Cayman Islands in 1969. A talented artist himself, he dedicated much of his time to encouraging and nurturing emerging artistic talents such as Bendel Hydes through regular painting classes at a time when art was not taught in Caymanian schools. For many years Oliver and his wife Barbara ran Cayman ARTVentures, a gallery and art supply shop in George Town, as well as hosting the annual Art Talent Competition. Oliver was noted for his numerous postcard designs, and his work was celebrated in a retrospective at the Cayman Islands National Museum in 2012. His work can be found in the permanent collections of NGCI, the Cayman Islands National Archive, and the Cayman Islands National Museum.
