About the Artist
Raphael Powery
b. 1995
Raphael Powery was born in the Cayman Islands. Raised by his Caymanian father and Filipino mother in Barkers, West Bay, he had the opportunity to experience both sides of his culture, from growing up on island, to living a short period of his life in The Philippines after the passing of Hurricane Ivan. He loves to explore multiple mediums, but his greatest passion is for watercolour for its luminosity and playful, often fickle nature. He has developed his skill to honour and preserve the memory of local sites and express his love for people, history, nature, and the Lord who made it all.
Raphael had taken up the brush in late 2019 and exhibited at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands Art Under Lockdown (2020), Interior and Interiority (2020), Big Art Auction 6 (2020), Big Art Auction 7 (2022), Conversations with the Past – In the Present Tense (2023), Thatch Roofs & Ironwood Posts (2024) and often participates in wider community events and projects to sharpen his skill.
