Conceived in collaboration with Cayman Art Week, Next Wave: Emerging Voices in Cayman Art explores the perspectives of young creatives navigating the evolving cultural narratives of the Cayman Islands. Featuring the work of +20 students from 9 schools across the Islands, these artists translate their observations of a shifting landscape into distinct creative expressions.
Utilising a diverse range of media – including photography, sculpture, repurposed materials, painting, and digital art – the works on display highlight how young practitioners are not only becoming increasingly attuned to both local and global shifts but are also finding agency in visualising their reflections on the past and their aspirations for the future.
By providing a platform for them, the exhibition aims to foster deeper dialogues between generations and formalise the professional presence of young artists within the local industry. Through this showcase, we witness a new generation of makers asserting their place within the contemporary art scene, offering a profound look at the Islands through the eyes of its newer voices.
