National Gallery gala explores Extreme Fashion

The National Gallery is holding its much anticipated annual fundraising gala on Nov. 30 in its gardens.
“The dress code is Extreme Fashion and guests are encouraged to use their wildest imaginations to engage in this year’s theme,” says Brooke Meyer, head of public engagement at the National Gallery.

The event will go from 6:30 p.m. until 1 a.m., beginning with a cocktail reception. After that, there will be a seated dinner, live auction with very exclusive items, a DJ and a fashion show featuring the Art of Fashion collections by local designers Isy B. and Jawara Alleyne.
Curated by Gallery Director Natalie Urquhart, with assistance from Simon Tatum, the current exhibition “Art of Fashion” is an examination of the worlds of art and fashion which have simultaneously coexisted and collided, with the boundaries between the two disciplines blurred.
The designers were given free rein to interpret the artistic history of the Cayman Islands, from early intuitive art by Gladwyn ‘Miss Lassie’ Bush and Charles Long, through to the emergence of the Native Sons, and on to the critically engaged contemporary art that is being practiced today.
Director of the National Gallery Natalie Urquhart and her guest, former Governor Helen Kilpatrick, showed how to dress for the occasion at the Surrealists Ball.
“Funds from last year’s Infinity Ball have provided NGCI with supplies and teaching resources for the Education Department and helped to fund the multifaceted Family Fun program,” says Meyer. “Further, funds raised ensured that admission to all the NGCI exhibitions remains free of charge and accessible to everyone.”
The annual gala is the gallery’s main source of income each year and promises a wonderful night out for attendees.
Tickets are $195 per person and table of 10 is $1,900. Premium tables for 10 and 12 people will be $3,000 and $3,500, respectively. A premium table will include a professional group photo, two bottles of champagne, recognition at the gala program and on the National Gallery’s website, a branded table sign and prime table positioning for the fashion show. There will also be a valet service available for everyone at the front entrance to the National Gallery.
