Description

A Summer of Art • Action Figure Takeover
13 July 2017, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

In this activity students will be making their own action figures out of tape and construction paper. They will then take their action figures on a tour around the Gallery sculpture garden, lower exhibition hall and permanent collection. The students will take images of their action figures alongside other artworks from the Gallery’s collection as an act of collaboration. This activity is inspired by Japanese artist Keisuke Ishino who has been making his own tape action figures since he was in 3rd grade. Ishino now shows his works in pop-up exhibitions all around the world in museums that house famous sculptures from throughout art history. The goal of this activity is to show students that the gesture of sculptures can sometimes be small and still have a strong impact and honest engagement with gallery visitors. Students will be able to take their tape action figures home with them at the end of the activity. Images of their children’s action figures touring the Gallery will be posted on the Gallery’s Facebook page.
