Description

5-15 January, 2018. Visit the National Gallery to view the annual Outreach Exhibition, featuring artworks by participants of our 8 outreach programmes.

The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) proudly presents over 100 works of art by the 50+ students who participated in the NGCI Outreach Programmes in 2017. NGCI Education Officer Jessica Ebanks explains, “this exhibition highlights the diversity of talents present throughout our community and showcases the potential of art as an avenue for healing, as many of the outreach programmes have a therapeutic focus.”

The exhibition is open to the public and runs from 5-15 January 2018 in the NGCI Dart Auditorium/Community Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Friday, 5 January from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. NGCI outreach programmes include: Art Haven (classes for participants from Caribbean Haven Residential Centre, HMP Northward, HMP Fairbanks and Eagle House Rehabilitation Centre) taught by Mr Joseph Betty and sponsored by Ms Lori Monk and Mr Kevin Butler, Art Talk for participants aged 60+ sponsored by EY, EY’s Meet Me held at The Pines retirement home taught by Mr David Bridgeman, and EY’s Art for the Elderly in Cayman Brac for taught by Ms Simone Scott and sponsored by EY, and Sunrise Art Club for adults with disabilities taught by Mr David Bridgeman and sponsored by Appleby.

The NGCI Outreach programmes cater to a wide variety of community groups, ages and abilities. Art classes and special events are held on site at the National Gallery where possible, and for some NGCI instructors go out into the community to lead art projects. Classes encourage the discovery of new skills and development of abilities and apply concepts of art therapy where appropriate to support mental health and overall wellbeing.
