About the Native Sons:

“During the early 1990s, there was mobilisation toward a new, home-grown discourse that challenged the persistent dominance of landscape painting and which resulted in the creation of the Native Sons collective in 1996. While stylistically indiviual, the Native Sons were united by the principle of promoting a uniquely Caymanian aesthetic inspired by their heritage and sociocultural experiences, including their African heritage, which has been relatively removed from artistic content until this period.” – The Art of the Cayman Islands
