Thank you to everyone who joined us Sunday, 21 May 2017 for a full day of presentations and workshops that explored how artists and creatives can build a business around their talent, from initially developing a presence in the art world through to learning to sell work directly to the public or finding suitable representation. Topics included: starting your business; finding representation; connecting to exhibition and performance opportunities; marketing your work; expanding your networks through residency programmes; and more.

The line-up of international speakers included: Lisa Hoffmann, Executive Director of the Alliance of Artists Communities (USA), Amanda Coulson, Founder and Artistic Director of Volta Art Fair (Basel and New York), O’Neil Lawrence, Senior Curator at the National Gallery of Jamaica (Jamaica), the Cayman Islands Intellectual Property Office, Deborah Anzinger, Director of NLS residency project (Jamaica), Natalie Urquhart, NGCI Director (Cayman), and Kaitlyn Elphinstone NGCI Public Engagement Manager, (Cayman).

“This was a great event. I’m really glad I attended, as I learned about what curators require from artists, how artists can help themselves to raise public awareness of art and various opportunities and organisations that support artist growth and development. The speakers were all experts in their field and accomplished individuals in their own right addressing the issue of education, promotion, marketing and sales from different view points. I left the Symposium feeling inspired and I’m looking forward to attending follow-up and future events. Thank you to all involved!” – Jacqueline Bleicher

We are please to be able to share some of the invaluable resources from the symposium here:

  • Fresh Milk Art Platform Inc (Barbados) has an outreach of twice a year to international artists which encompasses applicants from the region as well.

  • Popopstudios: International Center of Visual Art, (Bahamas) founded 10 years ago.
  • ResArts (International), this is a site which lists hundreds of residency opportunities internationally.
  • Davidoff Foundation (Dominican Republic)
