The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands is seeking submissions for its latest photography-based exhibition, which aims to capture the multi-faceted social and cultural tapestry of our Islands. Focusing on depictions of family gatherings, community life, scenes of leisure, and images that record the changing face of Caymanian society from past to present, Cayman on Camera invites community members to share their photographs as part of a collective memory project aimed at telling the wider story of the Cayman Islands and its people.

The exhibition will aim to draw upon the treasure trove of archival imagery found in personal collections and family photo albums, while also encouraging the submission of new work by contemporary photographers documenting the tangible and intangible aspects of Cayman’s unique identity and cultural heritage.

The artists and artworks will be selected from this open call for submissions through a juried review process. Caymanians and residents in all three Islands with a relevant portfolio of work are welcome to submit. The exhibition will be showcased at venues in the Sister Islands, Owen Roberts International Airport, NGCI’s Dart Auditorium Community Gallery, as well as via online platforms.

SUBMISSION PROCESS:

This exhibition is open to all members of the Cayman Islands community, and we encourage both professional and amateur photographers to apply. Artists are invited to submit images of their work, along with a short description. Please send your submissions in electronic format to the attention of the curatorial team at curatorialsupport@nationalgallery.org.ky by 28 June 2024.

Up to three photography submissions per artist will be considered. Each applicant will be notified with an acknowledgement of receipt of their submission, as well as with a final decision regarding the outcome of their application.
