On 07 February, Education Manager Maia Muttoo and Collections Curator William Helfrecht visited Radio Cayman’s studios to discuss The People’s Collection with Orrett Connor on For the Record. In their conversation, they noted that The People’s Collection provides the ideal opportunity for the Caymanian public to gain a better appreciation for the breadth and variety of Caymanian art that has been acquired for the collection since NGCI’s inception 25 years ago. Discussing the various ways in which the collection continues to serve as an invaluable civic resource, Muttoo and Helfrecht went on to share details about NGCI’s award-winning Digital Programme, which is showcased in the exhibition through an interactive learning room featuring computers and iPads for visitors to explore the Gallery’s digital resources. Highlighting NGCI’s virtual tours, blog series, past exhibitions archive and the recently updated Collections Online Project– the largest Online Collection of Caymanian art in the world—these digital initiatives have become a cornerstone of the National Gallery’s renewed commitment to widening access for both local and international audiences.
