Sue Widmer

1957–2011

Originally from the United Kingdom, the late Sue Widmer arrived in the Cayman Islands in 1982 as an art teacher and later worked as Head of Art at Cayman Prep and High School. She was an avid painter and portrait artist who was prolific in both acrylic and watercolour, exhibiting widely with the Visual Art Society, while also being a regular demonstrator at the Art@Governor’s festival. Her work is represented in Art of the Cayman Islands, the Islands’ first formal art history (Scala Fine Art Publishers Ltd.: Fall 2016) and is included in the permanent collection of the Cayman Islands National Museum and NGCI, where she was featured in the exhibition Tropical Visions – Landscape Painting from the National Collection (2019).
