The National Gallery is privileged to be hosting a retrospective of work by renowned local artist Janet Walker. Spanning several decades, this exhibition will highlight Janet's skill as a watercolourist and explore the many changes that have occurred within our environment over the years.

After training at the Ontario College of Art, Canadian born Janet moved to Cayman in 1963 with her husband and only after her children went off to school did she begin to paint seriously. She works predominantly in watercolour, a medium suited to her subject matter - the spectacular and ever-changing seascapes and landscapes, which are captured spontaneously on location.

"Janet Walker began painting at a time when the visual arts community was in its infancy and has risen to become one of the most recognisable artists in Cayman," explains NGCI Director, Natalie Urquhart. "Seen together for the first time, this beautiful collection of work is an ode to both our cultural heritage and our natural environment."
