Artists Away

Once a year, the National Gallery provides practising artists with the opportunity to expand their visual arts skills in a foreign country, over an intensive time period.
The ‘Artists Away’ programme focuses on the utilisation of equipment and resources not available here in Cayman. In previous years participants in the programme have travelled to Cuba, to study printmaking, Italy to learn bronze casting, photography in the US and painting in Canada.

Ogier Summer Internship Programme

Thanks to local law firm Ogier, young people now have the opportunity to explore the world of visual arts as summer interns at the National Gallery.

Ogier’s sponsor

ship allows the National Gallery to offer paid employment opportunities to young people during the summer; these students will assist with events, exhibitions and outreach programmes, gaining valuable work experience across the spectrum of gallery operations.

“Ogier is committed to supporting educational opportunities, particularly those that offer a broad spectrum of experience for students”, said Giorgio Subiotto, partner at Ogier.  “The National Gallery internship offers these students a balanced experience which combines artistic influence with practical operational and leadership skills, making it a valuable opportunity for growth”.

The summer internship programme has run for the past several years, and operates alongside the Deutsche Bank Internship programme to allow the Gallery to host interns throughout the year.

Deutsche Bank/National Gallery Intern Programme

The National Gallery has been making great strides over the past few years to awaken the passion for the visual arts in our islands. In continuing with this objective it has been the dream of the gallery to be able to offer a young Caymanian the experience of working in the Gallery prior to further education. Now with the generous sponsorship of Deutsche Bank, the National Gallery can make this dream of an intern programme a reality.

As a group, Deutsche Bank around the world is committed to the arts in each of their many jurisdictions. Sophie Ebanks, Marketing Manager for Deutsche Bank Cayman states “When we were approached by Nancy and the National Gallery to be a part of the intern programme we were both delighted and honoured. Education and the Arts have long been a focus of Deutsche Bank and what better way to achieve this than through education in the Arts for our young Caymanians”.

Nancy Barnard, D

irector of the Gallery states "The experience that a year at the National Gallery will provide in terms of business and art skills will be second to none and this internship will provide another opportunity for the succession of young Caymanians into the workforce".
