Outreach Background
Through the help of various sponsors within Grand Cayman the National Gallery is able to provide nine Art Outreach Programmes for the Cayman community. These are non profit art focused programmes where individuals are given a creative and positive creative and positive environment in which they are encouraged to direct their energy into productive artistic activities to help strengthen their artistic, personal and social development. We encourage the community to support the Art Outreach programmes through participating in one of our programmes as a member, volunteer, sponsor, and instructor or by visiting the annual year end exhibit held at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands each summer. About Art Outreach Since 2001 the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) has developed art programmes targeted for a wide range of youth and adults from people who express a genuine interest in expanding their art skills to people who seek to create art as a means of therapeutic expression. Our demographic continues to evolve as we expand and create new programming where we see the interest. The goals of the collective Art Outreach programmes will be to create programmes which will teach arts skills; teach life skills such as beginning and completing a project; create opportunities for strengthened peer and mentor relationships; raise self esteem; and create a quality art project for public display. Diversity in Our Programming Recognizing and being sensitive to the community, family and school risk factors such as economic instability, family conflict, substance abuse, or academic failure is one way we at the NGCI Art Outreach programmes achieve successful relationships which will allow growth and ultimately positive change for our participants both artistically and socially. We encourage all citizens of the islands, regardless of education, economics, race, religion, or artistic ability to attend our programmes and get involved. From our experience working with participants from diverse background only creates a richer environment to learn and share with. |
